Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and that changes the math. For anyone planning a Halloween party in Katy TX, a Saturday means no alarm the next morning, no costume assembled in a parking lot after work, and no good reason to call it a night at ten.

The daytime belongs to the kids, as it should. Neighborhood streets across Katy fill with costumes and trick or treaters by late afternoon. Then the porch lights go off, the candy bowls come inside, and the adults start looking for somewhere to go.

That is the shift we work.

Below is how the evening of October 31 tends to unfold at MidPoint, written hour by hour, with a few honest notes on costumes, rooms and the ride home. Final event details, including any special programming, will be posted on our Events page and social channels as the date gets closer.

5:00 PM. The Costume You Should Have Picked Last Week

Every year, somebody arrives in a costume that looked brilliant in the mirror and becomes a problem by the second drink. Before you commit to anything, think about where you will actually spend the night. A good list of Halloween costume ideas for a bar is shorter than the one for a house party, because a bar asks more of you. You will sit, stand, dance, hold a glass and squeeze past strangers.

Here is a quick reality check.

Costume typeWhere it works bestWhat to watch for
Full face maskEarly photos, then the bagDrinking and talking become a chore
Large wings or propsThe terrace, where there is roomCrowded bar spaces after 10 PM
Matching couple or group looksEverywhereOne person always forgets their half
Classic film characterThe bar and loungeNothing, as long as people recognize it
Elaborate makeupAnywhereLeather seating and anyone you hug

The safest choice is the one you can wear comfortably for five hours. The best choice is the one that makes a stranger at the next table laugh before they have had a drink.

7:00 PM. Eat Something First

This is the part most people skip, and it shows by eleven.

Book dinner. Saturday nights fill early on a regular weekend, and Halloween is not a regular weekend. Groups larger than six should call ahead, because putting eight people in costume around one table takes more planning than putting eight people in jeans around one table.

The menu runs from easy to serious. A build your own burger or a Margherita pizza works if the night is long and the table is restless. A meze platter and falafel make good sharing plates for a group that wants to graze. If somebody wants to go all in, the 12 oz ribeye has never once been regretted.

8:00 PM. If You Are Bringing the Whole Crew

Some groups treat Halloween as a birthday, an office night out and a reunion rolled into one. If that sounds like yours, consider reserving a section instead of a table. MidPoint can host private gatherings, with the lounge alone holding up to 60 guests, and a reserved space solves the usual problems in one move. Everyone knows where to find each other, coats and props have somewhere to live, and nobody spends the night guarding three empty chairs.

Call early. The last Saturday in October has a way of filling up well before the day itself.

9:00 PM. Choose Your Room

MidPoint has three spaces, and Halloween is the one night a year when every one of them looks like a film set.

The bar and restaurant is the loudest of the three. Live music and dancing happen here, and it is where the costume parade is most visible. If you came to be seen, this is your stage.

The hookah lounge is calmer, with leather seating and a playlist that lets you hear the person next to you. And yes, one of the house flavors is called Lady Killer. We did not plan that for Halloween, but we are not going to pretend it is not perfect.

The Garden Terrace is the open air option, with room for up to 75 guests. Late October usually brings the first truly comfortable nights of the season, and costumes with more volume are better appreciated outside.

An adult Halloween party works best when nobody is stuck in the wrong room all night.

That is the real advantage of a venue with three moods. If the bar gets too loud, the lounge is a short walk away. If the lounge gets too quiet, the terrace is waiting. People drift between them all night, which is exactly how a Halloween bar in Katy should feel: like a house party that someone else cleans up after.

10:30 PM. The Drinks That Dress the Part

Whatever ends up on the seasonal board that night, a few drinks on the regular menu already look the part. Think of these as Halloween cocktails that never needed a costume.

The Red Ruby Lemonade arrives the color its name suggests. The Espresso Martini is dark, sharp and keeps a vampire on his feet past midnight. An Old Fashioned suits anyone dressed as a character from a black and white film.

Then there is rakı, which might be the most Halloween drink on the shelf without trying. It pours perfectly clear. Add water and it turns a cloudy, ghostly white in seconds. In Turkey it is called lion’s milk. On October 31, it looks more like something from a potion bottle.

Designated drivers are not forgotten. Mocktails, Turkish tea and coffee are on the menu all night.

Midnight. The Part Nobody Plans

Doors close at 2 AM on Saturdays, and Halloween is no exception.

Of all the things to do on Halloween night, arranging a ride home is the least exciting and the most important. Rideshare prices climb fast after midnight on October 31, and wait times stretch. Book early, assign a driver before the first round, or plan to leave a little before the rush. A cape is much less fun to wear on a curb at 1:30 AM.

Before the Mask Goes On

A Saturday Halloween is rarer than it sounds. After this one, the next does not arrive until 2037. Treat this one accordingly. Pick a costume you can live in, book a table, decide on the ride home before you leave the house, and let the rest of the night take care of itself.

For reservations or group bookings, call (832) 437-8001. We are at 25600 Westheimer Parkway, Suite 400, near Katy Mills and LaCenterra.

Come as anyone you like. Just come hungry.
